Shunt Driver

Loading, unloading, moving and organizing.

How would you like to be responsible for thousands of dollars worth of goods without having to travel very far to ensure that everything reaches its destination? That's exactly what you'll do as a Shunt Driver. Before goods get moved or shipped, it will be up to you to make sure that things are precisely where they need to be. So if you're looking to get started in trucking, consider a career as a Shunt Driver. Where you go from here is up to you!

What would I do?

As a Shunt Driver, you'll be responsible for helping ensure that the warehouse, terminals and handling facilities are running smoothly. As a result, you'll have to move, or “shunt,” empty and loaded trailers from the loading docks to and from the yard.

To perform this job well, you'll require some technical skills, as you'll have to manoeuvre, back, park and dock trailers. You'll also have to be organized. It's up to you to make sure that the right paperwork goes with each load and/or trailer as it's moved around the yard.

Some Shunt Drivers may also be involved in loading and unloading trailers.
